latest pictures of clownknife fish aquariums

The clown knifefish is very distinct, with normally silvery gray with a long knife-like body (laterally compressed) and a long anal fin that gives these fish their common name. Mature fish normally have five to ten (or even more) black spots ringed with white that usually decrease in size as the fish grows. These ocellated spots and the lack of faint stripes on the back separate it from Chitala chitala; a species it frequently has been confused with. Albinos and leucistic specimens are seen with some frequency in the aquarium trade. This fish grows to a fairly large size, up to 1 m (3.3 ft) and 5 kg (11 lb) in the wild.[1] It has two nasal tentacles above its large, toothed mouth. In the center of the body is a flaglike dorsal fin and has no ventral fins. Most clown knifefish are afflicted with cloudy eye color when they age.

They are nocturnal and usually cruise during the twilight hours. They normally hunt live prey and will try any fish that fits into their mouths. Young clown knifefish usually school near water logs and plants for security, whereas more mature specimens usually become territorial and eventually become loners. These fishes can also breath air to survive in stagnant waters and little oxygen. The clown knifefish prefers water around neutral pH and temperature ranging from 75 to 85 °F (24 to 29 °C). These fish usually are found in lakes, swamps, and river backwaters.Clown knifefish are hearty eaters, and will take live foods such as feeder fish, ghost shrimp, and blackworms. With time, they can be adapted to foods such as beefheart and will sometimes learn to accept commercial food pellets. They are mostly nocturnal, thus prefer feeding when the lights are off.To see more pics....

pictures of animal black ghost knife fishes

The black ghost knifefish is a tropical fish belonging to the ghost knifefish family. They originate in South America in the Amazon Basin in Peru and from Venezuela through Paraguay in the ParanĂ¡ River. They are becoming popular in aquaria. This fish is all black except for two white rings on its tail, and a white blaze on its nose, which can occasionally extend into a stripe down its back. It moves mainly by undulating a long fin on its underside. It will grow to a maximum length of 20 inches (50 centimeters), It does not have scales. These fishes are natively lives in fast moving, sandy bottom creeks in a tropical climate. South American natives believe that the ghosts of the departed take up residence in these fish.

Black ghost knifefish require a medium sized tank of 30-40 US gal (95-110 litres) when smaller, though as they grow larger will require a much larger tank of around 80-90+ US gal.A lid is needed as they have been known to jump out. This knifefish get to a maximum size of 20" in the wild, but usually stop growing at 12" in home aquaria, although they may grow to 15" in a larger tank. It requires a minimum of a 150 gallon tank with excellent filtration. It is generally timid and reclusive, preferring a fine-gravel-bottom aquarium with plenty of roots and rocks for hiding places, as well as subdued to dark lighting. To better appreciate this fish, many hobbyists will purchase a "ghost tube," a clear plastic tube that facilitates viewing during the day. Once accustomed to its surroundings, the Black Ghost Knifefish can become incredibly tame and trusting to the point of being hand-held. It does well with other, larger species of a peaceful nature, but may be aggressive towards those of similar or smaller size. This fish will eat all types of live foods including meat, chopped earthworms, as well as frozen and flaked foods.for cute birds...

wallpapers of animal gouramis fishes collection

All Gourami species originate from Africa and Asia, and there are approximately 12 different Gourami species frequently kept in aquariums today. It originates from Indonesia, but is today found wild in Chinese and South Asian waters as well. It has been deliberately introduced by man and is considered a delicates. Osphronemus goramy is sometimes called Giant Gourami, since it grows very fast and can exceed 60 centimetres / 2 feet in length, it can live for 25 years or longer in captivity. It comes as no surprise that other Gourami species than the “True Gourami” are more popular as house pets today.

Helostoma temmincki, the Kissing Gourami, is the most popular Gourami species among aquarists. It seldom grows bigger than 25 centimetres / 10 inches. The so called Talking Gourami, Trichopsis vittatus, is an even better choice if you have a smaller aquarium since it will stay around 5 centimetres / 2 inches. The Talking Gourami is also called the Croaking Gourami, since the male fish produces a croaking sound when it surfaces during the night to breed oxygen from the air. If you want a somewhat larger Gourami in your aquarium, the Moonlight Gourami (Trichogaster microlepis ) is a good option. It is comparatively easy to care for and typically reaches a length of 15 centimetres / 6 inches.

A majority of the Gourami species appreciates the same type of living condition, since there do exists a few differences between the species regarding preferred water temperature, pH-value, diet requirements etcetera it is always recommended to do some reading regarding your particular Gourami species as well. Generally speaking, Gouramis will do well in water temperatures around 24 – 26 degrees C (74 – 79 degrees F). When it comes to pH-values, neutral or slightly acidic water will be best for the Gourami. Gouramis also prefer to be kept in relatively soft water.cute pics of deers...

The elephant nose fish are native to the rivers of West and Central Africa, in particular the lower Niger River basin, the Ogun River basin and in the upper Chari River. It prefers muddy, slowly moving rivers and pools with cover such as submerged branches. It is a dark brown to black in colour, laterally compressed (averaging 23–25 cm), with a rear dorsal fin and anal fin of the same length. Its caudal or tail fin is forked. It has two stripes on its lower pendicular. Its most striking feature, as its names suggest, is a trunk-like protrusion on the head. This is not actually a nose, but a sensitive extension of the mouth, that it uses for self-defense, communication, navigation, and finding worms and insects to eat. This organ is covered in electroreceptors, as is much of the rest of its body. The elephant nose fish has poor eyesight and uses a weak electric field, which it generates by muscular contractions, to find food, to navigate in dark or turbid waters, and to find a mate. elephant nose fish live to about 6-10 years, but there are reports of them living even longer.for more cute pics..

The puffer fish also called as pufferfish, balloonfish, blowfish, bubblefish, globefish, swellfish, toadfish, toadies, honey toads, and sea squab. They are typically small to medium in size, although a few species can reach lengths of greater than 100 centimetres (39 in). They are most diverse in the tropics and relatively uncommon in the temperate zone and completely absent from cold waters.
The puffers excellent eyesight combined with this speed burst is the first and most important defense against predators. Their back up defense mechanism, used of they are successfully pursued, is to fill their extremely elastic stomachs with water (or air when outside the water) until they are much larger and almost spherical in shape. Even if they are not visible when the puffer is not inflated, all puffers have pointed spines, so a hungry predator may suddenly find itself facing an unpalatable pointy ball rather than a slow, tasty fish.click for cute animals..

The Perciformes, also called the Percomorphi or Acanthopteri, is the largest order of vertebrates containing about 40% of all bony fish. Perciformes means perch-like. They belong to the ray-finned fish and comprise over 7000 species found in almost all aquatic environments. They are also the most variably sized order of vertebrates, ranging from the 7 mm Schindleria brevipinguis to the 5 m Makaira species.
Perciformes are easy to recognize. The dorsal and anal fins are divided into anterior spiny and posterior soft-rayed portions, which may be partially or completely separated. The pelvic fins usually have one spine and up to five soft rays, positioned unusually far forward under the chin or under the belly. Scales are usually ctenoid, although sometimes they are cycloid or otherwise modified.

The halfbeaks are elongate, streamlined fish adapted to living in open water. Halfbeaks range in size from 4 centimeters (1.6 in) standard length in Hemirhamphodon tengah to over 40 centimeters (15.7 in) in the case of Euleptorhampus viridis. The scales are relatively large, cycloid (smooth), and easily detached. There are no spines in the fins.A distinguishing characteristic is that the third pair of upper pharyngeal bones are anklylosed (fused) into a plate. Halfbeaks are one of several fish families that lack a stomach, all of which possess a pharyngeal jaw apparatus.

These shrimp are white or a peachy-cream with vibrantly colored spots or splotches. Harlequin found in and around the Indian Ocean typically have blue or purple splotches, whereas ones in the Pacific region have red and orange splotches.
The shrimp consumes starfish alive. Usually working in pairs, the harlequin will keep the starfish alive by feeding on it for about a week, starting on the starfish's tube feet, until it is completely consumed. The shrimp enjoy fresh starfish, so they will keep their food alive by feeding it while in their captivity. Considering this, it is difficult to keep a constant food supply for this pet.
